First, you should know if plasma cutting is suitable for your products. i.e. some customers use plasma source to cut the mould. We know the mould accuracy is very very strict, it’s apparently that normal plasma cannot meet it. i.e. some customers use plasma source to cut the plate with thickness up to 100mm. The top level of plasma capacity can meet 50mm for piercing(Mild steel), it’s real waste to use plasma for thick plate. So, we should consider if plasma cutting is suittable for the purpose,thickness and material of the product you want to make before choosing it.

Secondly, choose right plasma source for right thickness. Many customers suffer great lost because they always consider the price not the real value for the money. i.e. max capacity of PM1250 is 16mm for mild steel piercing, 38mm severance. But some customer ignore it and use it to cut 19mm of steel. The problems: need more spare parts, bigger angle on the cutting surface. The spare parts cost is a very high waste here.

Thirdly,we should know the angle for plasma. i.e. following chart. Let’s learn something from it. It’s for HPR260. first column,one strike cut less than 1000 times, when the current is 130A, the angle meet ISO9013 Range 3, 3.18°for 10mm cutting,2.58°for 12mm,1.87°for 20mm. We met many customers are confused about the angle and always complain the angle is too big. Actually, the angle is relative with the power of the plasma, the thickness of plate and the spare parts condition.

Fourthly, good gas quality is also very important for cutting. Before the gas goes to the cutting system, the gas should be no oil and no water. So there are three filters to clear the gas. Otherwise, the spare parts will be wear in shorter time, the cutting quality is bad.
Fifthly, right operation is very important. The distance from the cutting torch to the surface should be suitable for cutting. Normally, there is suitable distance in cutting for each plasma source for different current, we can refer to the specification and setup the distance. Then, the controller will control the distance for piercing.

Finally, good maintenance and good operator with rich experience are also important.
